Diaper Ditchers

You hear a faint ripping sound....you come around the corner and expect your child to have a piece of paper or something similar in their mouth...but what you come upon is much different.  In the .00000005 seconds it took you to round the corner, your child has ditched their diaper, taken a few steps, squatted and peed all over your carpet (true story)....sighhhhhhhhh.......that's what we call Diaper Ditching....it ranks pretty high on the list of fears of diapering moms.  At least mine anyway.

So, when my sweet daughter first started ripping at her diapers, I kept thinking, I just need to distract her, and then she won't remember she's wearing Velcro.  That didn't work.

Then I thought, oh, I'll just keep her in pants all the time.  Well, it's 90 degrees here, so, that didn't work.

At this point, I was noticing that only our snap diapers would stay on her...so I thought I could sneak the Velcro in during nap time.  She woke up from one nap drenched in her pee with no diaper on, and SCREAMING, so that didn't work.

Apparently my sweet little one just loved the sound the Velcro made WAY too much...so, we are now a 100% snap family :) No more Velcro for this little girl! We will tuck them away for the next one!  LUCKILY, we love the Rock-a-Bum snaps and they are strong enough to ward off her little 15 month old mischievous ways :)

**If you are a disposable only family, the Rock-a-Bums covers are designed to go over disposables too, and it will keep your little one from ditching their disposable diaper!

This is my little girl attempting to take off the Rock-A-Bums, thank goodness the snaps are strong!

Rockin' a Swim

Rock-A-Bums, Rockin' a Swim

Now the weather is starting to turn nice, and our minds start shifting from mud puddles and umbrellas to flip flops and swimming pools.  The sounds, smells and surroundings of summer are finally here...

Every family has their own way of beating the heat, but for us, we like to be outside (lathered in sunscreen of course) and in some form of water.  Now, since we exclusively cloth diaper, finding a swim diaper is not all that difficult, we have a stash full of them.  It only takes one MINOR adjustment to our every day Rock-A-Bums cover to turn it into a swim diaper.  I take the cover, (which is on the middle rise snap setting for my daughter), and I snap it down to the smallest rise setting.  That is all.  I know what you’re thinking, “it really can’t be that easy,” but, it REALLY is!  Once I have it snapped down, all I have to do is put it on her, along with her swimsuit and she is set!

When using the Rock-A-Bums diaper as a swim diaper, you want to make sure that you leave OUT the insert.   No insert is necessary when using it as a swim diaper, you just want the cover to hold in any messes.

Do you know what I love best about using my Rock-A-Bums diapers as swim diapers?
1.       The inside is GRAY fleece, so if she makes a mess inside of it, it won’t show a stain

2.       They are reusable, so I won’t be creating any waste

3.       I don’t have to rush to the store to find the right “size” before my little darling can splash in the pool.

It’s a win for everyone!

Would you like to win your own Rock-A-Bums diaper, insert AND wet bag?  Well, enter here for your chance to win!!!

Flats and Hand Washing Challenge

Success!!!!

We are at the end of our Flats and Hand Washing Challenge!!!  We made it!!!!  There were a lot of ups and downs through the challenge, but I am able to say that I learned quite a bit.  Here are my top 10 things I learned this week...
1. I am a pretty good agitator (when using our camp style washer, not in relation to my husband ;) ).
2. Drying flats takes considerably less time than I thought it would.  It took about an hour inside, which would be about 10 minutes in the sun...if we had any...
3. Flats are very inexpensive and easy to acquire.
4. Your child WILL leak through their diaper if you don't pack extra clothes....see that story here
5. If I can fold and hand wash diapers, ANYONE can
6.  Snappis aren't as intimating as they look.
7. Flats don't protect the cover as well as the regular Rock-A-Bums inserts (when it comes to poo).
8. It might take a few tries to figure out what combination of absorbency/folds work best, and that's not super easy to do on a wiggly toddler.
9. Flats are incredibly trim
10. I feel pretty confident that I can successfully learn anything on YouTube, origami folding diapers included.

As an added bonus, I do consider hand washing to be a work out, therefore I was able to get a work out in every day this week, that's something doesn't commonly happen :)

I am very glad that I participated in the flats challenge this year, as it was a great learning experience for me.  I have had multiple people tell me they want to cloth diaper, but live in apartments with no washer or dryer.  I am very thankful now that I have first hand experience in a way they can still manage to cloth diaper their children.  It will be good to refer them back to my journey through this challenge, and show that it is actually possible to cloth diaper your child on a minimal budget and without the use of a washer/dyer.

Now.......let the FUN begin.....

We are CELEBRATING our accomplishment in making it through this challenge and so we are GIVING AWAY 3 Rock-A-Bums covers, a Wet Bag, AND 10 Flour Sack Towels.  This will be a GREAT starter set for the lucky winner!!!

On the giveaway, the first one is supposed to be a "Blog Post COMMENT" :) Thanks!

The FLAT Fit - The Flats and Hand Washing Challenge

The FLAT Fit - The Flats  and Hand Washing Challenge

Since we are using Rock-A-Bums covers for the Flat and Hand Washing Challenge, there are so many directions I could go each day with how I want the diaper to fit, and where in the diaper I want the flat to be positioned.  The versatility of the diaper STILL rocks even when using flats!

Option 1:
Regular Pad fold in a Rock-A-Bums shell

Option 2:
Regular Pad fold INSIDE the pocket

Option 3:
Origami fold (or any other style of folding around baby)

Option 4:
Added Absorbency (our night time solution)

The BEST part about these is that they are SOOOOOOO trim with the Rock-A-Bums shell, I just couldn’t believe it!  Here are a few pictures to really prove their slender appearance.
